This section reviews the best ingredients and substitutions for this recipe. For an exact list of ingredients and quantities, check the recipe card below.
- Malted Milk Ball Candies - These are sold as Whoppers or sometimes under a different name. You want chocolate-covered malted candies.
- Malted Milk Powder - Can usually be found in the baking aisle near regular powdered milk or sometimes near the instant breakfast powders in the cereal aisle.
- Chocolate Chips - Use your favorite, milk chocolate, semi-sweet or dark chocolate.
- Butter - I use regular salted butter.
- Sugar - Both brown sugar and granulated sugar are used.
- Combine butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together. Mix until soft and creamy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add vanilla and eggs. Mix well.
- Stir in flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Fold in chocolate chips and malted milk balls.
- Scoop cookie dough onto an ungreased baking sheet.
- Bake in a preheated 375°F oven for 8-10 minutes
- Cool on a baking sheet for 1-2 minutes, then remove cookies and place on a cooling rack.
Recipe tips
- Cream the butter and sugar together for longer than you might think. Creaming helps add air to the mixture and helps dissolve the sugar crystals. Use an electric mixer for 3-4 minutes (or longer!)
- You want softened butter, but not melted.
- Use a cookie scoop to get evenly sized-cookies. I used a #40 scoop.
- Bake in a fully preheated oven.
