Puff pastry and tomato tart sliced into small squares.

This Puff Pastry Tomato Tart makes a perfect appetizer full of flavor. Made with puff pastry, garlic and herb cheese spread, and fresh tomatoes.

A tomato tart cut into nine pieces on a wooden board.

    Puff pastry tart

Puff pastry is so versatile and elevates just about everything. This tomato tart is really quite simple, but so elegant and delicious.

It makes a perfect appetizer or even a light dinner.

I've used my own quick puff pastry for the crust, but any puff pastry will work, including store-bought.

    Key ingredients

Puff pastry dough, fresh tomatoes and herbs and a soft cheese on a board.

This section reviews the best ingredients and substitutions for this recipe. For an exact list of ingredients and quantities, check the recipe card below.

    • Tomatoes - Fresh tomatoes really are the star of the show so pick beautifully ripened tomatoes. Pick freshly picked tomatoes, if available. You can select a variety of sizes, varieties, and colors.
    • Cheese Spread - I've used a homemade garlic cheese spread similar to Boursin. You could also use a garlic herb cream cheese.
    • Puff Pastry - Make your own puff pastry or buy from the store.
    • Parmesan - Freshly grated parmesan is grated over the top and adds extra flavor.
    • Herbs - I've used fresh thyme, oregano and basil.
