    Little smokies wrapped in bacon

These little smokies are wrapped with bacon topped with brown sugar and baked until crisp. They are a perfect appetizer for any gathering any time of the year!

This recipe uses a few simple ingredients: smokies, bacon, brown sugar, black pepper, and smoked paprika. I love the flavor of the spices, along with the saltiness of the bacon. If you want to make a spicy version, add a bit of chili powder!

My top tips for making this tasty appetizer:

    • Plan Ahead - Once assembled these bacon-wrapped smokies need to be refrigerated for 1-2 hours.
    • No Toothpicks Needed - Simply place the smokies with the seam of the bacon on the bottom.
    • Use Thin Sliced Bacon - Save the thick-sliced bacon for breakfast! This recipe works better with thin slices of bacon. It cooks quicker and wraps around the smokies more easily.
    • Serve hot or at room temperature - These are delicious right out of the oven, but you don't need to worry about keeping them hot. They are tasty as they cool to room temperature too!

Another great appetizer using little smokies is these mini pigs in a blanket!

Ingredients for little smokies bacon wrapped

Ingredients for making smokies wrapped in bacon.
    • Little Smokies - Use your favorite type of little smokie. Use cured or uncured, plain or cheese-filled.
    • Bacon - Use thinly sliced bacon.
    • Brown Sugar - Dark or light brown sugar works fine.
    • Spices - I use black pepper and smoked paprika. Regular paprika works well too. If you want things a bit spicier, use a ¼ teaspoon of chili powder or cayenne pepper.

Recipe tips for bacon wrapped smokies

    • Use a Rimmed Baking Sheet - These smokies release a lot of grease while they are baking. A rimmed sheet helps prevent a mess in the oven. You can also use a large casserole dish.
    • Foil - Lining your baking sheet with foil helps with an easier cleanup.
    • Use Thin Sliced Bacon - Save the thick-sliced bacon for breakfast! This recipe works better with thin slices of bacon. It cooks quicker and wraps around the smokies more easily.
    • Spacing - I like to place the bacon wrapped smokies on the tray with no space between the smokies. You can leave a bit of space if you'd prefer.
    • Serve hot or at room temperature - These are delicious right out of the oven, but you don't need to worry about keeping them hot. They are tasty as they cool to room temperature too!

    Frequently asked questions
