June 23, 2018 (Last Updated: March 23, 2019)

Your favorite restaurant appetizer made right in your own home!

Mozzarella cheese sticks make a delicious treat.

I know you’ve had them. Those delicious crunchy, cheesy mozzarella sticks you can order in almost any restaurant. They make a perfect appetizer or snack anytime of the day or night.

The cheesy goodness of mozzarella cheese sicks.

I’ve made a couple of different versions of mozzarella sticks and now I think I’ve got a perfect recipe – double dipping the cheese sticks in egg, flour, egg and then bread crumbs makes a nice coating.

Mozzarella cheese sticks dipped into marinara sauce makes a delicious appetizer.

A few tips to keep in mind when making Mozzarella Sticks

  • Use panko bread crumbs
  • Use a double dip breading system – first egg, then flour, then egg then panko bread crumbs
  • Freeze dipped cheese sticks for 1-2 hours
  • Fry at 375 degrees  – make certain your oil is preheated
  • Drain cooked cheese sticks on a paper towel
  • Enjoy while still hot or warm
  • Serve with your favorite marinara sauce

  3. Place a piece of parchment paper on a baking sheet

  4. Working with one cheese stick at a time, dip into egg, then into the flour, then back into the egg and finally into the bread crumbs. Press bread crumbs firmly onto cheese stick making certain all areas are covered.  Place on baking sheet.

Look at that gooey mozzarella! I agree on the double dipping before frying, and also the use of the panko crumbs which make for a crunchier texture. They look like a winner!

These look absolutely perfect, not to mention COMPLETELY irresistible! My husband used to say that he “didn’t like” mozzarella sticks…but it turned out that what he really meant was, “If you order mozzarella sticks, I will eat all of them, so I’ll pretend I don’t like them.” I’ve never made them at home, but I’m sure they’d be gone in a flash!

My husband often says he’s not that hungry and orders an appetizer and a salad and then he eats all of our leftovers! To be safe you’d better make a double batch!

The crunch is the best part…well that and the melty cheese! Just doesn’t get much better than that!

Excellent mozzarella sticks tips here, Kathy! Laura was just telling me a couple of weeks ago that I should make homemade mozzarella sticks. I haven’t gotten around to it yet, but I hope to someday. In the meantime, I’m just going to drool over these photos. You nailed it! 🙂 These would be a great snack while watching World Cup games. Yum!
