I know you've had them. Those delicious crunchy, cheesy mozzarella sticks you can order in almost any restaurant. They make a perfect appetizer or snack anytime of the day or night.
What ingredients do I need to make Mozzarella Sticks?
- Mozzarella string cheese
- Eggs
- Flour
- Panko bread crumbs
- Oil for frying
I've made a couple of different versions of cheese sticks and now I think I've got a perfect recipe - double dipping the cheese sticks in egg, flour, egg and then bread crumbs makes a nice coating.
A few tips to keep in mind when making Cheese Sticks
- Use panko bread crumbs
- Use a double dip breading system - first egg, then flour, then egg then panko bread crumbs
- Freeze dipped cheese sticks for 1-2 hours
- Fry at 375 degrees - make certain your oil is preheated
- Drain cooked cheese sticks on a paper towel
- Enjoy while still hot or warm
- Serve with your favorite marinara sauce

I made this recipes using mozzarella pearls as an hors d'oeuvre for a cocktail party. They were super cute and pop-able and so delicious they were gone in a flash. They took a little more work because of the size and the amount I was creating but worth it when my guests were enjoying them drizzled with marinara.

What a great idea to use small bites of mozzarella.

Questions:
How long can the sticks before stored in the freezer before you cook them? Days, weeks or months.
Kathy says
You could freeze these for up to 1 month and then use.

Look at that gooey mozzarella! I agree on the double dipping before frying, and also the use of the panko crumbs which make for a crunchier texture. They look like a winner!
Kathy says
The panko crumbs add all that amazing crunch.

These look absolutely perfect, not to mention COMPLETELY irresistible! My husband used to say that he "didn't like" mozzarella sticks...but it turned out that what he really meant was, "If you order mozzarella sticks, I will eat all of them, so I'll pretend I don't like them." I've never made them at home, but I'm sure they'd be gone in a flash!
Kathy says
My husband often says he's not that hungry and orders an appetizer and a salad and then he eats all of our leftovers! To be safe you'd better make a double batch!

Excellent mozzarella sticks tips here, Kathy! Laura was just telling me a couple of weeks ago that I should make homemade mozzarella sticks. I haven't gotten around to it yet, but I hope to someday. In the meantime, I'm just going to drool over these photos. You nailed it! 🙂 These would be a great snack while watching World Cup games. Yum!
