    Blackened fish

If you're looking for a fast and easy dish that's packed with flavor, this Blackened Walleye is for you. I've used walleye in this recipe, but really almost any white fish fillet will work. Use whatever you have on hand.

Blackening refers to a spice rub that is generously applied to fish or meat. It is then cooked over a high heat giving it a slightly blackened appearance.

I like to make my own blackening seasoning, but any type of blackening spice mix works for this recipe. One great thing about making your own is you can adjust the spice level up or down to your liking.

    • Fish Fillets - I use walleye fillets, but you can use any white fish fillets. The fillets should be boneless and skinless.
    • Blackening Seasoning - A delicious spice blend. Make your own or buy from the store.
    • Lemons - Use if you like freshly squeezed lemon juice on your fish.

    Recipe tips

    • A cast iron skillet is the ideal pan to use for pan-frying blackened fish. If you don't have a cast iron skillet, use a heavy-bottomed pan.
    • Use a fish spatula to get all the way under the fish. This will help prevent the fillets from falling apart.
    • Cooking time will vary depending on the size of your fillets and the temperature of your pan.
    • Cook fish until it is fully cooked through to 145°F

    Frequently asked questions
