Pinwheels or wraps
It really doesn't matter what you call these, Italian pinwheel wraps or roll-ups, they all are the same thing and all equally delicious!
These pinwheels make a perfect appetizer, but we also love them for lunch or even a light dinner. They are perfect for packing into small containers and taking on a picnic or we often take them on the boat when we go fishing.
Reminiscent of an Italian sub sandwich, but made in an easy-to-eat bite-size slice. Fill with your favorite deli meats and add your favorite toppings.
We love pinwheels in our house and make them often. Some favorites are Turkey and Bacon Wraps, Veggie Pinwheels, and Roasted Chile Pinwheels.
Key ingredients
This section reviews the best ingredients and substitutions for this recipe. For an exact list of ingredients and quantities, check the recipe card below.
- Wrap - Use large burrito-size tortillas or wraps. Pick your favorite flavor or use a variety of wraps. They are available in plain, spinach, or tomato. The fun colors make a great presentation.
- Turkey - Use sliced deli turkey. You could also use ham if you prefer.
- Salami - Use your favorite type of salami. Hard salami or genoa work well.
- Pepperoni - Adds extra flavor! You could use regular pepperoni or turkey pepperoni.
- Provolone Cheese - It works well with these flavors, but you can use your favorite type of sliced cheese. Some options include cheddar, pepper jack, or gouda.
- Cream Cheese - This is the base for the spread.
- Roasted Bell Peppers - Use sweet bell peppers, not spicy ones. You can purchase a jar of roasted red peppers or roast your own.
- Sun-Dried Tomatoes - Use oil-packed sun-dried tomatoes. You'll drain off the oil, but a little bit will still cling to the tomatoes adding extra flavor to the spread.
- Italian Seasoning - Added to the spread for extra flavor
- White Wine Vinegar - Adds just a touch of zest to the spread. It also helps make the cream cheese softer and more spreadable.
- Lettuce - Adds crunch and texture to the wrap. I use green leaf, but romaine or iceberg lettuce also works well.
- Pepperoncini - Adds such great flavor and a bit of crunch. You could also use banana peppers.
