Cheesy garlic pull apart bread is stuffed with mozzarella cheese and dipped into an herb garlic butter. Each bite is filled with pure deliciousness. This made from scratch monkey bread is perfect for a party served as an appetizer or as a side dish to a main meal.
Oh my goodness! This bread is everything you’ve ever dreamed of. Well, it’s everything you’ve ever dreamed of if you dream of all things garlic and cheese! Just imagine – soft pillowy bread filled with mozzarella cheese in each pull apart piece.
To make it even better, each round is dipped in garlic butter and then sprinkled with Parmesan cheese! I told you, everything you’ve ever dreamed about! And if you didn’t dream about it before, you will now!
What is a pull apart bread?
Pull apart bread is also call monkey bread. It is created by taking bread dough and rolling it into small rounds and then layering the rounds in a bundt pan.
What kind of cheese do I use?
I used two kinds of cheese in this bread – mozzarella and Parmesan.
How do I make garlic pull apart bread?
- Start by making homemade bread dough
- Divide the dough into 32 pieces. Form each piece into a rough ball.
- Flatten each ball
- Add a small piece of cheese
- Fold up dough around cheese, sealing all seams of dough
- Roll each sealed piece of dough into melted garlic butter

- Layer each piece of dough into a greased bundt pan
- Sprinkle each layer with Parmesan cheese
- Allow bread to rise
- Bake in a preheated 375 degree oven
- Allow to cool for 10 minutes, invert bundt pan to remove bread
How do I serve this bread?
I like to serve as an appetizer with warmed marinara sauce or as a side dish along with a Caesar salad. and a pasta dish. This baked chicken pasta is one of my favorites.
Can I make ahead of time?
Yes, you can make this ahead of time. But I think it’s best still warm out of the oven. This bread is still delicious the next day served at room temperature.

Cheesy Garlic Pull Apart Bread
Ingredients
Dough
Filling and Assembly
- 4 ounces mozzarella cheese (cut into 1/2" cubes)
- 1/2 cup butter
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese (shredded)
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Instructions

- Measure water into mixing bowl and sprinkle yeast over water. Add honey and stir. Let rest for 10 minutes until mixture becomes bubbly.
- Add Olive Oil, Salt, and one Cup of Flour. Mix until incorporated
- Continue adding flour 1 Cup at a time. You might not add all the flour. With the last cup begin adding 1/4 cup at a time.
- Knead for 10 minutes
- Move dough to a large bowl that has been lightly covered with olive oil. Cover with plastic wrap.
- Let rise until doubled
- Punch down down gently.
Filling and Assembly
- Melt butter in a small sauce pan. Add minced garlic and Italian seasonings. Let simmer 1-2 minutes on a very low heat. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Divide the dough into 32 pieces. Form each piece into a rough ball.
- Flatten each ball
- Add a small piece of cheese
- Fold up dough around cheese, sealing all seams of dough
- Roll each sealed piece of dough into melted garlic butter
- Layer each piece of dough into a greased bundt pan
- Sprinkle each layer with Parmesan cheese
- Allow bread to rise
- Bake in a preheated 375 degree oven for 35-40 minutes
- Allow to cool for 10 minutes, invert bundt pan to remove bread
Notes
- I used active dry yeast in this recipe
- Water should be between 105-110 degrees
