Blending your own spices just makes good sense. This homemade poultry seasoning is perfect for adding to chicken or turkey dishes.
Mix up a batch and store it in your cupboard for any time you need some amazing flavors.
Make your own Poultry Seasoning!
Blending your own seasoning mixes is easy peasy. You get to control what goes in and I get to use my homegrown and dried herbs.
For this poultry seasoning mix, I used my own rosemary, oregano, and basil. The rest of the herbs and spices I purchased from the store. We often buy large bulk-sized containers to use because we go through a lot of herbs and spices.
Poultry seasonings vary with the ingredients added. You can omit or add other herbs or spices as you'd like. Just make this your own.
I have not added any salt to this mix. Instead, I add the amount of salt I'd like to each item I'm cooking. I just sprinkle it with salt and then with the poultry seasoning.
Purchased poultry seasoning is often finely ground. I've left this mixture with crushed herbs. If you'd like a powdery mixture, place everything into your food processor or blender.
What's in Poultry Seasoning?
- Sage - Use dried powdered sage. Sometimes also called rubbed sage.
- Paprika - Adds color and flavor. You could also use smoked paprika for a different flavored mix.

- Rosemary - Use dried rosemary. If the rosemary is large, just crumble it in your hand to make slightly smaller pieces.
- Thyme - Use dried flakes
- Marjoram - Use dried flakes
- Onion and Garlic Powder - May also be called granulated onion or garlic
- White Pepper - Adds peppery flavor. Just a small amount is used in this blend. Finely ground black pepper may also be used.
