Why make these pretzels

Everyone loves Valentine's day! Whether celebrating with your significant other, your children, your best friends or a classroom full of elementary children, this day is fun and is a great day to show your love!

Making a fun treat that is loved by all is rewarding. These chocolate-covered pretzels have that delicious sweet and salty combination and a perfect crunch in every bite.

The symbolic colors are the perfect finishing touch to this easy-to-make treat.

If you have young kids, this is a perfect treat for them to help. Depending on their ages, you can have them dip the chocolate and everyone loves adding the sprinkles!

Purchase some cute cellophane bags and fill them up with this lovely little treat. You'll be certain to win some smiles, hugs, and even a little extra love! If you have any extra bags, whip up some cutout chocolate chip cookies that are shaped like hearts and add them to the bags!

Dipped pretzels aren't new to the blog! I also have Christmas Dipped Pretzels and 4th of July Pretzels. They really are so versatile!

Key ingredients

Pretzels and brightly colored sprinkles on a baking sheet.
  • Chocolate melting wafers - I used dark chocolate and vanilla melting wafers. You could also use milk chocolate.
  • Pretzels - pick your favorite or use a combination
  • Sprinkles - select red, pink, purple and white sprinkles

Step by step directions

  • Heat chocolate in microwave for 30 seconds at a time at half power, if available
  • Take out and stir each time. Once chocolate is smooth, it is ready. Be careful not to overheat or it will burn.
  • Dip pretzels one at a time into chocolate. Wipe or tap off excess chocolate

  • With the small pretzels use a fork to dip the pretzel. Then remove the pretzel and tap the fork on the side of the jar allowing the excess chocolate drip off.
  • With the rods, place in jar and spoon chocolate over ⅔ of the rod. Then use the back of the spoon to remove the excess chocolate
  • Add sprinkles and place on parchment paper until it cools and hardens

  • To add the white chocolate drizzle, first add the regular chocolate and allow it to harden. Then dip a spoon or fork into the white chocolate and allow the white chocolate to drip onto the pretzel while you move your hand quickly back and forth

Recipe tips

  • Heat your chocolate in the microwave for a very short time - no more than 30 seconds at a time. The chocolate will burn quickly if you're not careful. Stir chocolate between each time.
  • If your microwave is very powerful, do 15-20 second intervals instead
  • Chocolate may also be heated over a double boiler with simmering water in the lower pot.
  • Do not add anything to the melting wafers
  • If the chocolate begins to become difficult to work with, pop it back into the microwave for 10-15 seconds and give it a good stir
  • When adding sprinkles, work over a baking sheet. It helps collect all those wayward sprinkles!
  • Once the chocolate has cooled and hardened, store in an airtight container in a single layer. Place waxed paper or parchment paper between each layer.

I love chocolate-dipped pretzels! They're such an easy treat to make, and the salty + sweet combo is delicious. I don't think we've ever made them for Valentine's Day though - putting them on the list for sure!
