Two classic flavors of peanut butter and chocolate combine into one delicious muffin. These chocolate peanut butter muffins are perfect for breakfast, snacking, or even as dessert!
Whip up a batch of these delicious muffins and they'll be ready in just 30 minutes!
Why make these muffins
I love to make muffins. In fact, I believe I probably have more muffin recipes on my site than any other type of recipe.
Chocolate and peanut butter are a classic pairing so it was only natural that they come together in a muffin. These muffins have two kinds of chocolate - cocoa powder and chocolate chips and are topped with chopped nuts!
I made these peanut butter muffins for my kids, my husband, my dad (who's a peanut butter fanatic) and all of you! My kids taste tested these for me and declared them delicious!

Key ingredients
- Peanut Butter - crunchy or smooth. I've made it using both and it's really what you prefer and what you already have on hand!
- Cocoa Powder - natural unsweetened
- Chocolate Chips
- Sour Cream
- Milk - I use whole milk, but you could also use 2% or skim milk
- Eggs
- Honey Roasted Peanuts - optional, but the nuts add a perfect sweet and salty crunch to the muffins
Steps to make
- Combine flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt together in a bowl
- In a separate bowl, combine sugar, milk, egg, oil and vanilla
- Mix in peanut butter
- Add flour mixture and stir just until combined
- Fold in chocolate chips
- Place batter in paper lined or greased muffin tin
- Sprinkle chopped honey roasted peanuts on top of batter
- Bake in a preheated 375 degree oven for 15 minutes
Recipe tips
- Use an electric mixer to fully incorporate the peanut butter into the liquid mixture
- Once you add flour, just stir until combined - don't overmix
- Gently fold in chocolate chips
- Use paper liners or spray your muffin tin with a nonstick spray
- Gently push chopped peanuts into the top of the batter. This helps prevent the peanuts from falling off the muffins once cooked.

I'm with you, I love making & eating muffins! I usually make a healthy snack to have on hand for the week, and often I make cookies or muffins. And I love chocolate + peanut butter! So do you like other nut butters like almond or cashew butter?
Kathy says
I do like almond butter - flavored with maple syrup and spread on apple slices! 🙂 I have not tried cashew butter.
