Basil Mayonnaise

Why make this recipe

You are going to love this Basil Mayonnaise!

Basil is one of my favorite fresh herbs. I grow several plants in my garden every summer. I love adding fresh basil to pastas and salads. I also make a ton of pesto and when I still have an abundance I make this flavored mayonnaise.

It is quick and easy and adds a wonderful flavor to any sandwich, wrap or could even be used to make a salad dressing. It would be perfect in these turkey wraps!

Another tasty flavored mayonnaise we make is this chipotle mayonnaise! Both would be delicious set out on a sandwich bar.

A small bowlful of basil mayonnaise.

What is basil mayonnaise?

It  is mayonnaise flavored with fresh basil. It is also called basil aioli.

My daughter loves this on her sandwiches during the summer time. We make it every chance we get.

A turkey sandwich with cheese and lettuce.

Can I use other herbs?

Yes, you could use fresh thyme, cilantro or chives in place of the fresh basil.

Two halves of a turkey sandwich cut on the diagonal.

Can I make this flavored mayonnaise vegan?

You bet! You can use any type of mayonnaise to make this recipe - even vegan mayonnaise.

I love simple fixes to jazz something up, Kathy - and this is a brilliant idea. I have tons of basil growing - I'm making this this weekend! Thanks for the great idea. I wonder if cilantro would work too - I've got tons of that growing too.

We love basil here, too, but this year we already lost two plants, one regular and one thai basil. Guess it rained too much. Now we've planted a third one, with very small leaves, and it seems to be doing fine. Would love to try your basil mayonnaise. Looks and sounds awesome!

There are so many varieties of basil. I hope you have success with this third plant!

There's nothing like the smell of fresh basil growing in the summer. I love putting it in iced tea too. I would have this on every sandwich!
