It's all about the peaches

Peach BBQ sauce is a mouthwatering variation of traditional barbecue sauce that adds a touch of fruity sweetness to your grilled dishes. Made with ripe, juicy peaches and peach jam, this sauce offers a unique and refreshing twist to your favorite barbecue recipes.

The natural sugars in the peaches caramelize beautifully, infusing the sauce with a delightful combination of tangy and sweet flavors that perfectly complement a variety of meats.

The sauce creates a tantalizing glaze that caramelizes on the grill, imparting a gorgeous color and irresistible aroma to your dishes.

This peach BBQ sauce brings out the best of summer. With the bright and juicy flavors of fresh peaches, this sauce embodies the essence of warm, sunny days.

It's the perfect companion for backyard barbecues, picnics, and cookouts, adding a burst of sweetness that will have your guests coming back for more.

Elevate your grilling experience with peach BBQ sauce and savor the irresistible combination of smoky, tangy, and fruity flavors.

This recipe is adapted from Add a Pinch. I first made this BBQ sauce because I had a lug of fresh peaches to use up and I loved that I could use my homemade tomato sauce and my freshly made peach preserves.

I've made a few changes to fit my tastes and my needs.

Key ingredients

Ingredients for making a fruity barbecue sauce with peaches.

This section reviews the best ingredients and substitutions for this recipe. For an exact list of ingredients and quantities, check the recipe card below.

  • Peaches - Two types of peaches are used: fresh peaches and peach jam. You could also use apricot jam if the peach jam isn't available.
    • If fresh peaches aren't available, you can use chopped frozen peaches
  • Tomato Sauce - Use your home-canned tomato sauce or store-bought. You need 1 ½ cups so a 15-ounce can works fine.
  • Sweetener - Brown sugar adds a rich sweet flavor and the honey adds a delicate balance of flavors.
  • Spices - Garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and red pepper flakes offer the perfect balance of flavors.

Step-by-step directions

In this section, I share step-by-step photos, cooking methods, techniques, and a general overview. For detailed instructions, temperatures, and timing, check the printable recipe card below.

Recipe tips

  • Experiment with spices and seasonings. Try adding complementary spices and seasonings. Some options include ginger powder, dried mustard, chipotle powder, or even a hint of cinnamon. Adjust the amounts based on your personal preference to achieve the desired level of spiciness and complexity.
  • Allow your peach BBQ sauce to simmer gently on low heat for a period of time. This simmering process helps the flavors meld together, intensifies the taste, and allows the sauce to thicken slightly.
  • If you prefer a smooth sauce, you can blend the sauce using an immersion blender or regular blender. Alternatively, strain the sauce through a fine-mesh sieve to remove any fibrous peach bits and achieve a smoother consistency.

Frequently asked questions

What types of meats pair well with peach BBQ sauce

Peach BBQ sauce pairs well with a variety of meats, adding a delightful sweetness and tangy flavor to enhance your dishes. Try adding to grilled chicken, pork chops, or pork ribs.

How long will Peach BBQ sauce last?

Homemade BBQ sauce will last for up to two weeks when stored in the fridge.

Storing BBQ sauce

Homemade BBQ sauce will last for up to two weeks when stored in the fridge. For best results, be certain to do the following:

  • Allow the sauce to cool: Before storing the peach BBQ sauce, make sure it has cooled down to room temperature. Hot sauce can create condensation inside the storage container, leading to moisture buildup and potential spoilage.
  • Choose an airtight container: Transfer the sauce to a clean, airtight container for storage. Glass jars or food-grade plastic containers with tight-fitting lids work well. Ensure the container is thoroughly cleaned and sterilized before use.
  • Refrigerate promptly: Place the tightly sealed container of peach BBQ sauce in the refrigerator as soon as it has cooled. The cool temperature will help preserve the sauce and maintain its flavor for a longer period.
  • Label and date the container: It's helpful to label the container with the date of preparation, especially if you make multiple batches of sauce. This will help you keep track of its freshness and avoid using expired sauce.
  • Avoid cross-contamination: When using the sauce, make sure to use a clean spoon or utensil each time to prevent any cross-contamination. This helps maintain the integrity and freshness of the sauce.
  • Check for signs of spoilage: Before using the sauce, inspect it for any signs of spoilage, such as an off smell, unusual texture, or mold growth. If you notice any of these signs, it's best to discard the sauce.

Ways to use this BBQ sauce

The versatility of peach BBQ sauce allows you to get creative and enjoy its savory, tangy, and sweet flavors in a variety of ways. Some ways to use the sauce include:

  • On Grilled Meats: Apply the sauce to your meats, such as ribs, chicken, or pork, during the last 15-30 minutes of cooking. Basting with BBQ sauce adds a flavorful coating and helps to create a caramelized, slightly sticky exterior. Remember to brush the sauce on toward the end of cooking to prevent excessive burning due to the sugar content.
  • Dipping and Serving: BBQ sauce can also be used as a delicious dipping sauce or condiment. Serve it alongside your grilled meats as a flavorful accompaniment. You can also use it as a topping for burgers, sandwiches, or as a dip for appetizers like chicken nuggets or vegetables.

      Hi Rebecca,
This recipe has not been tested for canning. I do have several canning recipes perfect for beginning canners, but I don't have a canned bbq sauce yet.
