Classic wedge salad

This wedge salad is just one of those salads that never seems to go out of style. It goes with just about any main dish and it's so easy to make. And the presentation always makes an impressive statement!

Serve as a side or as a main dish and make the wedges any size you'd like! Be certain to check out all my variations too!

Key ingredients

Ingredients for making a wedge salad.

This section reviews the best ingredients and substitutions for this recipe. For an exact list of ingredients and quantities, check the recipe card below.

This salad needs just a few simple ingredients.

  • Iceberg Lettuce - Select a firm head of lettuce. Iceberg heads vary in size so select one that fits your needs.
  • Blue Cheese Dressing - Make your own or use your favorite store-bought dressing. You can use ranch instead if you're not a fan of blue cheese dressing.
  • Blue Cheese Crumbles - The crumbles add a bit more flavor! If you're not a fan of blue cheese, use shredded cheddar cheese.
  • Bacon - Crispy bacon adds flavor, texture, and saltiness.
  • Cherry Tomatoes - Adds color, flavor, and texture.

Step-by-step directions

In this section, I share step-by-step photos, cooking methods, techniques, and a general overview. For detailed instructions, temperatures, and timing, check the printable recipe card below.

  • Remove any limp outer layers of the lettuce.
  • Slice lettuce in half from top to bottom, right through the center of the core.
  • Cut a small wedge to remove the core.
  • Rinse each half of the lettuce under cool water. Allow the water to fill all the layers. Place lettuce with the cut side down and allow all the water to drain off.
  • Cut each half into small wedges. You can cut into halves or thirds, depending on the size of your head of lettuce and how large you'd like each serving to be.

  • Drizzle with blue cheese dressing.
  • Sprinkle with bacon, crumbled blue cheese, and cherry tomatoes.

  • Try to drain all of the excess water from the lettuce. Shake the head to help remove water.
  • Slice wedges into any size portion that works for you.
  • Serve wedge salad on a platter or individual plates.
  • Serve extra dressing on the side
