Delicious sandwich filling

This ham salad spread has so much flavor and is perfect to make up a quick sandwich or serve as a spread for crackers on your appetizer buffet. Make with leftover ham or deli ham.

Key Ingredients

  • Ham - use leftover holiday ham or buy ham from your deli
  • Mayonnaise - use whatever you have in your refrigerator
  • Celery - finely diced
  • Pickle relish - sweet relish is what I've used. You could also use dill pickle relish or finely chop up dill pickles
  • Dijon mustard - use regular yellow mustard if you prefer

Tips for making ham salad

In this section, I share step-by-step photos, cooking methods, techniques, and a general overview. For detailed instructions, temperatures, and timing, check the printable recipe card below.

  • The amount of mayonnaise added will vary depending on how dry your ham is. Start with a ½ cup and add more as needed
  • Don't over-process your ham, you want a fine dice, but not a paste
  • If you don't have a food processor, you can finely mince the ham with a knife
  • Keep salad covered and refrigerated for up to two days

Omg I just made your ham salad and it is sooooo good I ate deviled ham in a XO small can when I was in H S and we would doctor it up and have sandwiches. But it was nothing like your recipe. This is definitely a keeper and so easy.

I have to admit that I have never made ham salad before. And now I'm wondering why I haven't thought about it! This looks amazing, Kathy, and we have leftover smoked ham in the freezer. Add in some good toasted grain bread, and I think I just found some awesome lunches for next week! 🙂

I didn't grow up on it, but I fell in love with it right away. And it's a great way to use up leftover ham that seems to last forever!
