Holiday Pretzels

Are you ready for the 4th of July? Do you have any big plans for the day? We will attend our local, small-town parade and then head to the city park where they host watermelon eating contests, turtle races (with turtles), and chainsaw contests. When you live in a small town, you get small-town activities.

Chocolate covered pretzels with sprinkles in a red basket.

The chainsaw contest makes me laugh, but to most people, it is a serious competition. The loggers and anyone with a chainsaw strut their stuff. There really is skill involved and the great ones make sawing through a huge log look effortless. Rod joins the competition every year, not as a competitor but as an official timer.

They always have two official timekeepers and they compare their stopwatches after each contestant completes their task. I always wonder if they both have the same time or if it's just part of the show!

In addition to chainsaws, there is also a crosscut saw contest. A crosscut saw is one of those old-fashioned, two-handled saws that have a person on each end. They work together to cut through a log. That one always amazes me. There's a lot of strength and precision going on with a crosscut saw team.

Red, white and blue sprinkles on a board with pretzels rods in the background.

Once dark hits, we head to a prime spot to watch the fireworks. The fireworks are set off from a huge barge parked in the middle of a bay on the lake. They are spectacular! Of course, there's lots of great food and eating happening all day long!

For me the 4th of July is all about fun activities, great friends and family and amazing food! It's a busy day and everyone has to eat! Why not make the food awesome?

These Patriotic White Chocolate Pretzels are perfect for adding a little extra pizzazz to the day! I have another recipe for milk chocolate pretzels and these Valentine's Day pretzels.

These patriotic pretzels are fun to make and if you have any little ones around or maybe a handful of teenagers, put them to work on these pretzels! They'll have a blast making them.

Another fun treat is these 4th of July Oreo Truffles.

Ingredients

  • 24 pretzel rods
  • 1 cup white chocolate melting wafers
  • assorted sprinkles

Instructions

  • Place pretzel rods on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Put white chocolate into a microwave safe bowl.
  • Microwave white chocolate for 30 seconds at a time, stirring each time until chocolate is completely melted.
  • Work with one pretzel rod at a time. Place rod over the bowl of chocolate. Drizzle a spoonful of chocolate over ⅔ of the rod.
  • Gently tap pretzel against side of bowl. This helps remove excess chocolate
  • Place chocolate covered pretzel on baking sheet. Sprinkle on colorful sprinkles while chocolate is still warm.
  • Let chocolate completely cool before moving. Store in an airtight container.

Notes

I used white chocolate melting wafers. You could also use white chocolate chips or a white chocolate bar.

How fun are these pretzels?? They're simple to make, and perfectly festive for the 4th! 🙂 Speaking of the 4th, I love the idea of small town activities. I've seen those log cutting contests on tv, and they are insane! I've never seen a turtle race, though. Perhaps they can borrow some turtles from near that new sign? 🙂 Thanks for sharing this one, Kathy...and happy 4th of July, my friend!

Such a perfect 4th of July treat Kathy! These would be great in little bags to give away to guests at a 4th party! (If I don't eat them all first!)

Those pretzels look pretty good. And that's pretty much the only food item I'll eat at Starbucks if I'm planning to go there! Seeing as how they rarely have pumpkin scones! I never thought about making pretzels myself.

In Canada our birthday is July 1 - 150 years on Saturday. There's a park with live entertainment all day plus a few amusement rides. In the past as many as 100,000 come out, and when I lived closer I'd walk there. Of course the real entertainment was after the fireworks and all these cars trying to get out of town thinking it'd be a good idea to stay off the main road and get lost in the local subdivisions. I live about 2 miles north now. I can see some of the fireworks, but the tall trees at the end of the property block them. Your small town activities sounds like a lot of fun, especially the chainsaws!

The chainsaws are fun! You need to make these pretzels yourself! Totally easy....but really easy to eat way too many! 🙂
