Fun and healthy Halloween treat

Every Halloween we go to my sister-in-law's house for trick-or-treating.  We live out in the country with the nearest neighbor being ½ mile away.

No chance of my kids getting a stash of candy at our place.  Nope, we head into town where we can walk down the sidewalks and go door to door.  It has become a tradition.

We always have dinner at my sister-in-law's house before we head out to fill their bags with candy.

We put out a spread with a bit of everything including Hot Dog Mummies!

The kids loved these fun apples and they gobbled up this healthy treat!

Go ahead, serve up some Halloween Apple Teeth for your little goblins!

Ingredients

A apple on a cutting board next to a bowl of slivered almonds.

The ingredient list for this fun Halloween treat is simple.

  • Apples - Pick any type of apple. Red or green works fine.
  • Lemon Juice - Totally optional. The lemon juice helps prevent discoloration of the apples. If you are making these ahead of time, consider using the juice.
  • Almond Slivers - This makes the jagged looking teeth!

Step by step directions

  • Quarter and core your apples
  • Rub with lemon juice to help prevent discoloring
  • With a small paring knife, cut a wedge from the front of the apple to form the mouth
  • Rub a bit of lemon juice in the newly cut area
  • Stick almond slivers in the opening of the mouth to resemble teeth

Hints and tips

  • Apples may be cut into small wedges, just make certain there's enough room to cut a mouth
  • Kids love helping with this treat and are perfect for placing the teeth in the apples
  • Make some fun shapes. Use a melon baller to cut a round hole in the apple for a different shape mouth.
  • Serve with a side of peanut butter or a caramel dipping sauce

WHAT A CUTE IDEA! I always soak my apple slices in lemon juice for a sweet and sour sort of flavor, so these are right up my alley! Thanks for sharing these perfect Halloween treats! 😀
